Liv describes herself as equal parts Chandler Bing and Phoebe Buffay, with a hint of Michael Scott. That lively personality is evident - Liv is an active member of many local organizations and clubs, including Hazel Findlay, FCCLA, high school soccer, the Mint Pageant, and now, a trailblazer for our little old Coalition. Liv helped to establish one of our subcommittees, aimed at supporting our local youth. Just this month, she is organizing a youth Open Mic Night, as well as townhall style forums for sparking change. Her work with us has largely been successful in engaging young people, and she plans to share her ideas on the state level with other FCCLA leaders. She says that stepping out of her comfort zone has been an amazing experience. Liv also describes music as an integral part of her life. “The Rock Show by Blink-182 will always live in my heart. There is no better feeling than to listen on vinyl,” she swoons.
Liv talks about the notion of loving others as a key importance in her life. She says, “I prioritize and value love. It's something that everyone deserves to be shown.” This is obvious about her - Liv inspires others just in conversation. She shared a poem by Rupi Kaur that has stuck with her, and empowers her to speak up for those who can’t:
The universe took its time on you
crafted you precisely
so you could offer the world
something distinct from everyone else
so when you doubt
how you were created
you doubt an energy greater than us both.
Liv spoke about celebrating every individual’s purpose: “It's saying that you were made to be who you are without any exceptions, the diversity is celebrated and needed.” In that, she recounted her love for St. Johns. She described the brilliant people that make up the community, full of ideas and energy. She sees growth and change happening all the time. The role she sees for herself in that is simply a catalyst. Liv aims to empower others in giving them a voice.
Check out Liv’s work here! Young people can join her Google Classroom to be a part of the conversation, or drop in to open mic night on February 26 at the Depot. Email sjcallincoalition@gmail.com or DM us on Facebook for more info.
